Strengthening second-trimester termination of pregnancy services in South Africa: 2017 meeting summary report

On Thursday the 26 of October 2017, Ibis Reproductive Health in partnership with the University of Cape Town’s Women’s Health Research Unit, Ipas, the South African Department of Health, and Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health (ANSIRH) hosted a meeting entitled, “Strengthening second-trimester termination of pregnancy (TOP) services in South Africa,” at the Ford Foundation Southern Africa office in Johannesburg, South Africa. The purpose of the meeting was to bring together sexual and reproductive health professionals, researchers, and TOP providers from provincial and national levels in South Africa to review new clinical and social science research evidence and engage with all partners around strengthening termination of pregnancy services, with a specific focus on second-trimester termination services in South Africa. The meeting was attended by 32 participants from 14 organizations including national- and provincial-level government departments of health, universities, and non-profit research organizations.
